Stop Animation Photography

Multiple still photographs in a gradual sequence documenting motion.

step one

Put digital camera on tripod. Place puppet in starting position. Looking through camera, position puppet on one side of camera frame. Take a photo.

step two

Move puppet very slightly.

step three

Take another photo. Continue this process over and over. Puppet should move across frame with each re-positioning. Twelve photographs represents one second of time in animation.

Import the photographs into a computer equipped with “Movie Maker” or “iMovie” programs. Input photographs into movie format. Add audio and titles to edit the movie.
